Upgrades You Need For Your Home Gutters

Construction & Contractors Blog

Home gutters are standard for residential homes. The most common option is simply open gutters. These are usually made of steel that has an enameled layer of color and protectant. They are attached with anchoring joints directly to the roofline of your home. Though these types of gutters traditionally work well, they may be lacking in some areas. Here are some of the upgrades you need for your home gutters and what to know about each upgrade.

Seamless Gutters

Seamless gutters offer several benefits to you as a homeowner. One of the leading reasons homeowners buy seamless gutters deals is due to debris. When a large amount of rainwater and debris works through a traditional gutter, it may get caught on the seams. This leads to more buildup in a short timeframe. The blockage forms water retention which pulls on the anchorings and causes wood damage and rot. With a seamless option, you avoid this issue and others completely.

Leaf Guard

If you want to keep your traditional home gutter system, but want to upgrade them is by adding a leaf guard. A leaf guard fits on top of the gutters. It essentially offers a screen to stop leaves, sticks, and other debris from entering and clogging the gutters. This means water runs directly from the roof and into the leaf filter to the gutter below while the filter holds everything else back. This type of upgrade greatly reduces your chances of gutter damage and roof damage.

Rainwater Collection Run-Off

You may decide you want to have a rainwater collection barrel or collection. The ideal way to set this up is to have the barrel directly connected to the downspout of the gutters. This means you need a shorter gutter runoff that can run directly into the barrel. Your roofing contractor can determine the best option for rainwater collection and how to connect it to your gutters. Keep in mind that there are other options including upgrades specifically designed for rainwater and barrel collection.

When you are ready to make your upgrades or to have your current guttering replaced, contact your guttering contractor. They can discuss your options with you, which accessories or upgrades may be ideal for your location, and answer any questions you have about the gutters. They can also give you suggestions on gutters you may want to consider and why. They can also inspect your roof to help make a more accurate determination of the upgrades that will suit your needs.
